  Chapter 1

  Jennifer

“Well, Blue Eyes, we really did it.” Andre exited the kitchen, a chilled bottle of champagne in one hand and two long-stemmed champagne flutes in the other as he strode into the unfurnished living room. “Can you believe we’re homeowners? It’s fucking crazy, right?”

“Woo-hoo!” Jennifer tossed her head back and laughed. Seated cross-legged on an old, worn-out blanket, her smile broadened in spite of her already aching cheeks. “Crazy in love, honey. Now, pop that sucker open. Let’s celebrate.”

Always a practical sort, her mega-hot fiancé shot her a devious grin. “Patience.” He bent down, lowering onto the floor to sit beside her. “My mother will be pissed if we’re drunk when she stops by to see the place.” He winked. “Besides, we have all night to celebrate. I look forward to getting drunk as I lick champagne from my future wife’s belly button.”

A thrill shot through her as Andre secured the bottle between his thick muscular thighs and then freed the cork. Jennifer bit down on her lower lip, nearly salivating as the loud whoosh ricocheted off the bare walls. Eyes wide, she watched in anticipation as the liquid bubbled over onto his fingertips.

Instinctively, Jennifer leaned over, purposely allowing him a glimpse of the swell of her breasts, and flicked her tongue out. She captured Andre’s finger between her lips and sucked greedily. The sweet, sticky residue tasted exquisite. “Tastes so good,” she practically purred as she bat her eyelashes. “I want more.”

“You can have the whole damn bottle, so long as you continue to look at me like that. It’s sexy as hell.” Andre chuckled in the low, sensual tone that never failed to make Jennifer’s heart flutter, as he filled each flute. “You’re such a naughty girl.”

“I know.” She shrugged. “That’s why you love me.” Jennifer nearly ripped the proffered drink from Andre’s hand before she thrust it into the air. “To unconditional love, mind-blowing sex, and the unknown adventure of homeownership. I wouldn’t want any of it without you, Andre Jenkins.”

“Here. Here.” Andre raised his glass, clinking it against hers. “I do like the way you think, Jennifer Jordan. And to think this is only the beginning. Soon we’ll be an old married couple making babies.”

A rush of eerie unease ebbed through Jennifer, bringing with it an unexpected slew of doubt. What if we aren’t ready? She snapped her eyes shut as if that would erase the thought. It was too late to second-guess. They’d signed the paperwork that afternoon. Lifting the flute to her mouth, Jennifer deeply inhaled the sweet aroma. Oh, yes. Yes, we are ready. I just needed this drink to remind me. Cold and delicate, the thin rim provided a welcome relief as she closed her lips around it. Not today, Satan, Jennifer thought and tipped the glass, eager for the alcohol to work its magic. I deserve this. I deserve to be happy—with him. The intoxicating sweet, fruity flavor felt like a warm blanket, each sip drowning the insecurities that plagued her.

  “Good, huh?” Andre said.

“Fantastic.” Jennifer puckered her lips at him. “Know what is even better?”

Warm brown eyes twinkled with mischief. “Kissing those sweet lips of yours.”

Jennifer giggled. “How’d you know?” she teased, placing her glass onto the floor. Before she could scooch closer to him, he’d risen to his knees. Sliding a hand behind her back, Andre swiftly drew her into his arms.

Jennifer snaked her arms over his shoulders, her breasts crushed to his chest as her palm cupped the base of his neck to guide him toward her mouth. “We really shouldn’t be doing this.” The slight protest was instantly abandoned as Jennifer urged Andre’s lips to part with her tongue.

“I’m addicted to you,” Andre breathed against her mouth. “I can’t stop myself from touching you.” His fingers slipped beneath her sweater, stroking and caressing the small of her back.

Alive with need, Jennifer kissed him with unleashed abandon wanting nothing more than for him to fuck her right there on the living room floor. “I want you,” she breathed against his mouth.

“I want you, too. Right here. Right now.”

“We have to be fast,” Jennifer said, pawing at the edges of his T-shirt. “I’m already wet.”

“Shit. You’re a fucking goddess.” Andre pulled away just long enough to strip the T-shirt from his body. “Lift your arms,” he instructed. Wordlessly, Jennifer stretched her arms above her head, allowing Andre to roughly tug the sweater off and then made short work of unclasping her bra. Carelessly, he threw it aside and demanded she lie back down.

Jennifer arched her back, her breasts jutting heavenward as she lifted her butt slightly from the floor to allow Andre to tug her jeans off. Her breath uneven, she panted, longing for him to claim her as his fingers moved to unzip his jeans. Anxious for him to fill her, she splayed her legs wide, her heart racing as she waited for him to crawl between them.

Andre distributed his weight onto each of his forearms, boxing her in between the two bulging biceps that flanked each side of her head, and lowered his mouth over her breasts. Soft as velvet, his lips skimmed over the tip of each of her puckered nipples, his hot breath tickling her. “God, I fucking love your tits.”

  Her pulse raced
as his dark, lust-filled eyes bore down on her. “Show me how much,” she dared him, gasping as Andre’s teeth clamped over the tender flesh. Sharp pangs shot through her. “Holy fuck,” Jennifer cried out, getting off as pain mixed with pleasure. “Don’t stop,” she hissed as he slowed to leverage his weight onto one side.

“I wouldn’t dream of it.” He flashed a heart-stopping smile at her and cupped her breast, fondling and kneading it between his palm. With a guttural moan, his mouth lowered to resume its delightful torment, nibbling and suckling as if he were starved for her.

Suddenly, a shrill buzz rang out.

Andre jolted upright. “What the hell is that?’

“The intercom,” Jennifer shrieked as she crawled out from beneath him. “Your mother! She’s already here!”

  Chapter 2

  Andre

Quick!” Jennifer leapt from the floor. “She’s not supposed to be here for another hour.”

“You know how my mother is, Jenn. She’s always early.” Andre grabbed his T-shirt. With long-legged strides, he walked to the intercom on the wall and pressed the button firmly down. “Mom?” he questioned, rolling the T-shirt down over his torso.

“Of course, it’s me,” Gladys Jenkins huffed through the speaker. “Who did you think it would be? The Queen of England?”

He rolled his eyes and answered dismissively, “No one.”

“Well, that’s a fine way to speak about your mother,” Gladys scoffed. “Perhaps, if you feel like I’m no one, I should leave.”

He released a long, drawn-out sigh. At the moment, he wanted nothing more than to have his cock deeply buried inside his woman. “I’m sorry. That didn’t come out right. It’s just that you’re early.” Andre peered over his shoulder, his brow crinkling as he watched Jennifer fumble with the clasp of her bra. “Give me a minute. I’ll be right down.”

“Nonsense,” his mother said. “Just buzz me up.”

Jennifer shook her head, mouthing the word no and darted around the living room. She threw her hands into the air, her eyes locking on a blue heap in the far corner of the room. “What the hell, Andre. Were you trying to make a fucking field goal?” she asked and then frantically dashed over to scoop her sweater up from the floor.

“No,” Andre quickly answered, then huffed beneath his breath, “jeez. For once, it would be nice if one of you were capable of keeping your smart-ass remarks to yourself.”

“What did you say?” Jennifer whipped around shooting daggers in his direction.

Andre shook his head. “Nothing. Never mind.”

  Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.

“Fucking hell,” Andre swore and once again, pressed the speaker button.

“I’d like to see your new home sometime this year, Andre,” Gladys stated.

“Coming, Mother. Right. Now. Hold on a minute.” He lifted his finger off the button, cutting off part of his mother’s sarcastic response. “I can’t hold her back much longer,” he said watching as Jennifer fell to her knees to whisk the blanket they’d been frolicking on moments before from the floor.

“Go. Go.” Jennifer waved him off bounding toward the kitchen, her arms overflowing with an empty champagne bottle, two glass flutes, and a wadded-up blanket.

MOMENTS LATER, ANDRE stepped into the condo, a large casserole dish in one hand and Gladys Jenkins directly behind. Her arms open wide, Jennifer skipped toward her soon-to-be mother-in-law, capturing her in a huge bear hug. “Welcome to our new home.”

“You’ve done well for yourselves,” his mother answered, an appreciative grin stretched across her face, as Jennifer led her into the spacious living room.

Pride welled within Andre. His mother had always been his role model. The approval of her words made him feel as if all the sacrifices she’d made for him had been worth it.

Single-handedly his mother had raised him along with his younger brother and sister after their father was shot and killed in the line of duty. The miniscule pension his father earned for the few years he’d served on the police force wasn’t nearly enough to raise three children. Gladys had been forced to work multiple part-time jobs just to put food on the table. But never once had Andre heard her complain. Just the same, he’d not been oblivious to the worry lines that etched her forehead as she’d sat at the kitchen table, her checkbook open as she punched numbers into the calculator, the pile of bills never seeming to come to an end. His mother may have thought he’d been unaware of those countless late nights where he’d seen the glow of her bedroom lamp shining from beneath the door, but he’d always been very much aware.

It had been shortly before his twelfth birthday when his father died. Perhaps that was why he’d found himself instantly drawn to Jennifer. They were kindred spirits. Each of them had experienced tragedy at such a tender age. A trauma, such as the death of a parent, changes you. In Andre’s case, he stepped up, taking it upon himself to become the man of the house and to be Jennifer’s protector.

When he’d heard that Stop and Shop was hiring part-time help, he’d applied directly after school the following day. Then hopped on the bus and immediately opened an account at the local credit union where he faithfully deposited half of each paycheck into his savings account and used the remainder to purchase special treats at the grocery store for his family. Of course, he’d always put a little aside to take Jennifer to a movie or for a bite to eat. Jennifer and his family’s welfare had always been and forever would remain his top priority. Unusually responsible for a teenager, instinctively, he’d always known that one day Jennifer Jordan would become his wife. Now, several years later, everything was falling into place. He was engaged to the love of his life and they’d just purchased their first home.

“Believe me, we’re far from rich,” Andre called out from the kitchen, as he placed his mother’s famous chicken casserole onto the counter. “We just work really hard and save every possible penny that we can.”

“I know, son. You both do. Now, it’s time for each of you to reap what you’ve sowed,” his mother answered.

“It’s pretty awesome, isn’t it?” Jennifer gushed.

As Andre walked back into the living room, his mother frowned. “Your fly’s open,” she informed him, pointing toward his crotch. Immediately, his hand flew to his zipper, jerking it up. “And your T-shirt is inside out,” she added, shaking her head.

“Jenn, why didn’t you tell me? You let me hang around all day with my clothes inside out,” Andre said, hoping to derail any notions of what they’d actually been doing prior to his mother’s arrival. Instantly, Jennifer’s cheeks flamed, and Andre knew for certain there would be hell to pay later for that remark.

Looking amused, his mother’s lips twitched, curling up slightly at the corners. “Your home is beautiful, Baby Girl. You’ve always been like a daughter to me. I couldn’t be any happier for or any prouder of either of you. Unless of course, you weren’t actually living in sin.”

  “Mom!” Andre chastised.

“We’re getting married,” Jennifer blurted, waving her left hand in the air to show off the small diamond chip barely visible in the center of a plain gold band. “Andre asked me right before we arrived at the real estate office.”

“Thank the good Lord!” Gladys clapped her hands. “How could you keep something like this from your mama, Andre?” She smirked and braced her palms against her son’s chest for support as she lifted onto her toes. Plump, full lips, much like his own, brushed against his cheek. Her warm breath tingled against his ear as she leaned closer to whisper, “I imagine this news is the reason you both look so flushed.”

  Chapter 3

  Andre

The following evening, Andre removed the reheated chicken casserole from the oven and placed it onto the stovetop. “My mother called me at work this afternoon.”

“Oh?” Jennifer said, rummaging through a huge brown box. “Ah-ha! I knew I’d packed the plates in the same box as the utensils.” She held up a plate wrapped up in newspaper, stepping over to th
e sink. “It will only take a minute to wash these. By then the casserole should have cooled down.”

“This domestic side of you is a real turn-on.” Andre leaned down, brushing a kiss on her cheek and then picked up a towel. “We make an awesome team,” he said, drying one of the plates. Then turned the conversation back to the phone call. “Mother has decided to throw an engagement party for us.”

“That’s cool.” Jennifer flashed a heart-stopping smile in his direction. “Maybe we can have it here. Show off all our new furniture.”

This isn’t going to go over well.

Slowly, Andre rubbed a circular pattern over the porcelain. “Yeah, that’s a great idea,” he hesitated, dreading telling Jennifer about the rest of the conversation.

“I know, right?” Jennifer answered, turning off the faucet.

“I just...well, I don’t think it’s exactly what Mother had in mind.” She’s going to hate this. Jennifer positively glowed, and she sounded so excited at the prospect of sharing their home with friends and family. He wished his mother hadn’t agreed to this.

“Why not? We just bought our dream condo and furnished it with brand-spanking-new furniture. I mean, really Andre, we could do a commercial for Cardi’s furniture stores. Don’t you think it would be fun to have the party here? By the end of the week, I think everything will be in tip-top shape. It will be awesome to show off our new digs.”

Andre chuckled. “Everyone will be jealous when they see what you’ve done with this place.” He cleared his throat. Just say it. Get it over with. “It’s just that my mother already accepted an offer from Rosalyn,” he said, doing his best to sound nonchalant.

“Rosalyn?” Jennifer’s lips turned down into a pretty pout, her body visibly tensing. “What the fuck does she have to do with this?”

He sighed, bracing himself for the upcoming battle. I knew she’d be pissed.

“Seriously, Andre.” Jennifer placed her hands on her hips. “How the hell did Rosalyn Spears find out already? We just told your mother last night.”
